Reality is the most confusing thing, isn’t it? Just talking about it means to partake in it, to change your perspective on it. Does the brain exist in reality? Does reality exist in the mind? Does it matter? And then what does all of that mean?

Inspired by concepts from artificial intelligence and statistical physics, I try to figure these things out as scientifically as I can.

To start I say that experience is ‘real’. It’s all we’ve got, anyway.

Moreover, some things we experience make logical sense. All science follows from there. But what does that tell us about the link between experience and the physical world?

I say some things make sense. Most of it does not, but we’re still here. If it doesn’t make sense, what is it? What does it do?

I aim to answer the above questions by keeping it simple. Cognition is complicated, and I can’t understand how the brain works in detail. Lots of people are working on that already. And it’s hard. But I  don’t need to know why we think something specific; I instead focus on what it means to have a thought. And what it means to not have a thought. Never mind the specifics.

Of course life is more than just thoughts and logic. Mystics and wisemen throughout the ages have tried to put their finger on it. The truth cannot be spoken, is often the conclusion. Maybe so, but surely we can point to the paradox that makes it so.

Sounds fun, right?

If you’re still reading, take a look at the blog posts. I hope to provide food for thoughts, and a forum to discuss these with my fellow confused people. Who knows, we might get somewhere.

Who am I?

While evidently in the process of figuring out just that, I am eager to cover a lot of ground. After completing a Master’s degree in theoretical physics at the University of Groningen, I can finally basically do anything I want. All I need is to figure out what I want from life.

So what are my values, ambitions? I thrive in an environment where there is room for perfectionism and innovation, while also for goofing around and intimate personal relationships. I want to see the world get better by doing less, and I believe things which really work, should work naturally, flow effortlessly. As such, I am very interested in nature and arts.

I’m in the process of figuring out what life style works for me, and I’m open to pretty much any interesting experience right now.
